I love, love, loved travelling around South East Asia. I had such an amazing time when I was eighteen on my first gap year in-between school and university. I spent about four months in total backpacking around Asia. I flew into Hong Kong, travelled by train into China, then flew out of Guangzou to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, it was then onto Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and finally Singapore.
South East Asia is just awesome; the amazing food, the glorious weather, the incredible people, the cultures, the history, my list could go on and on, but you understand!
Looking back and thinking about it now, Asia has to be one of my traveling highlights. I have memories of crawling through the Cu Chi Tunnels, sailing around Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. Riding elephants and learning to cook thai food in Chang Mai. Travelling by coach down to the islands, where I learn’t to scuba dive. I loved Ko Phi Phi so much I stayed for far too long and became a rescue scuba diver. It was then across the border into Malaysia where I headed to George Town the capital of the state of Penang, where I learnt more about the history. I then carried on by train to Kuala Lumpar the capital city where I saw the Petronas Twin Towers; and stood on the sky bridge taking in the incredible views. Singapore was completely different to the rest of Asia, so clean and tidy, no graffiti, no pollution, no chewing gum! But well worth a visit, especially to try an original Singapore sling cocktail.
I’m a massive believer everyone should go and do more traveling and explore more of the world. The world’s an amazing place, there are so many incredible things to see.Traveling makes you realise how small you are in the grand scheme of things, it also opens your mind and increases your self awareness. You really do learn a lot about yourself when you travel. It helps you mature, and you learn to appreciate the world in a different way and your place in the world.
“Travel is the only thing you do that makes you richer”.
I would encourage everyone to take some time off and go traveling.
Trust me, you’ll not regret it! It will be the experience of a life time!
Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be blogging about travel; what you need to do before you go, what to take, what to expect while travelling and how to look after your belonging and yourself while you’re out and about.
