Day 11-12: Espinosa del Camino to Burgos. đŸ„Ÿ My Pilgrimage on the Camino FrancĂ©s | Camino de Santiago 2023.

â„čStats Day 11

Date: Friday 12th May

Weather: so much colder - started raining đŸŒ§ïž

From: Espinosa del Camino

Start time: 7.40am

To: Ages

End time: 12pm

Terrain: rocky, sandy, gravel paths, roads and pavements.

Accommodation: albergue - bottom bunk- big room 20+ bunk beds

Food: apple 🍏, pear🍐 , peanuts & crisps. (No supermarket to resupply - so light on food today)

đŸ„ŸMiles: 13 miles

đŸŠ¶Steps: 27,558

Total miles completed: 180/500

💰Costs: €13 bed, €1.50 crisps = €14.50

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 7/10 - apart from the rain a solid day

Fatigue: 4/10 - had an afternoon nap for 3 hrs - it was amazing!

Ease of terrain: 4/10 - a couple of steep hills at the start - then flat and downhill the rest of the way

Challenges: first day with the waterproofs on. Needed to wait 30 mins in the wind and cold for the albergue to open!

đŸ’¶Running out of cash - need an ATM machine. A lot of the smaller towns don’t take card. So always good to carry cash with you.

I haven’t eaten enough today. I’m dreaming of buying a whole roast chicken to eat. 🐓

Highlights: enjoyed seeing street art 🎹walking through cute little villages & impressive buildings. Chatted with good people from đŸ‡ș🇾 & 🇳🇿👍😀

â„čStats Day 12

To: Burgos

End time: 1.45pm

Terrain: pebbles, & lots of road/pavement walking.

Accommodation: albergue đŸ›ïž

Food: banana 🍌, pack of cooked chicken, cookies, nuts, dried mango, crisps.

đŸ„ŸMiles: 17.7 miles (this also included walking about the city)

đŸŠ¶Steps: 36,514

Total miles completed: 198/500

💰Costs: €0.45 banana, €23 food resupply, €10 bed = €33.45

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 6/10 - if the weather was warmed it would have been bumped up to an 8

Fatigue: 2/10

Ease of terrain: 2/10

Challenges: no real challenges. I didn’t wake up till 8am and everyone else had left. I think it shows how tired I was (that was after a 3hr nap in the afternoon as well). No accommodation booked - but playing things by ear. It’s not that stressful when walking into a big city as it will be easy to find accommodation at the end of the day.

Highlights: the city of Burgos - stunning. The cathedral is something else. Well worth a visit. Also seen lots of street art which I love. The municipal albergue is huge - spread over 6 floors. I’m on floor 5 (12 bunk beds) super clean and spacious. Nice place to stay. Great location & great price. Still a lack of soap in bathrooms!
