ℹ️Stats

Date: Friday 20th May

Weather: gusting winds, heavy rain fall, a mixture of both & gorgeous sunshine ☀️ at the end of the day

From: Porth Clais

Start time: 6.51am

To: St. Brides

End time: 7pm

Accommodation: wild camped- by mistake. There should have been a campsite - but it wasn’t there!

Terrain: almost entirely along an attractive and convoluted cliff coast, with several ascent and descent, passing small headlands and rocky coves.

🥾Miles: 22.8

🦶Steps: 41,108

🏔 Ascent: 500 m

📚Guidebook Info:

Stage: stage 35 and most of stage 36

Pages: 219 - 226

Total miles on the WCP: 542/870

💰Costs: £5.19 - ribenna & pastries

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 6/10

Fatigue: 4/10

Ease of terrain: 4 /10 - headlands were quite rugged and the final part of the day there was some really steep climbs and descents.

Highlights - after being soaked by the rain. standing under a warm blower in a public bathroom was amazing

Challenges - the paths were very narrow and quite challenging to walk on. Plus with the wind blowing it was really brutal. not been able to stop and take as many rest breaks as we would’ve liked as if we stopped we will just get cold so we need to keep on moving for the majority of the day.

ℹ️Stats

Date: Sunday 22nd May

Weather: rainy 🌧, windy🌬, sunny ☀️- all the weather today

From: Sandy Haven

Start time: 7am

To: Pembroke Dock

End time: 3pm

Accommodation: Travel Lodge

Terrain: low cliff coast beside oil refineries. Urban pavements and busy main roads, plus 2 big bridge crossings.

🥾Miles: 15

🦶Steps: 30,499

🏔 Ascent: 410m

📚Guidebook Info:

Stage: most of stage 38

Pages: 231 - 236

Total miles on the WCP: 574/870

💰Costs: £16.50 (room & wifi) - traveling with another person makes it so much cheaper on the accommodation front.

Food: £3.60 - breakfast scrambled eggs on toast. £7.20 2x hot chocolate 🍫

Food shop at Asda £26.30 (dinner, breakfast & snacks)

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 4/10 - not the best scenery today and a lot more road walking

Fatigue: 3/10

Ease of terrain: 3/10

Highlights - stopped at Milford Haven for breakfast at a cafe and to plan the next few days. We made a booking at the travel lodge in Pembroke Dock - which was great as we now have a very clear goal of when to get there by (3pm - check in). The thought of a hot shower and a bed for the night was a great motivator to get the miles done!

Challenges - trying to figure out distances and accommodation over the next few days. While trying to stay on schedule and making sure the distances covered adds up. Also looking ahead to take a ferry across from Llansteffan to Ferryside. (Instead of doing a 17 mile detour inland) but making it work is a challenge- there are a limited number of times and crossing.

Also forgot to put on sunscreen 😳

Pages: 236 - 245

Total miles on the WCP: 597/870

💰Costs: £5 camping

Subjective feeling out of 10 on:

Enjoyment: 5/10 - nice day nothing to complain about

Fatigue: 3/10 - only towards the end when there were a few ups and downs - which isn’t what you want after 24 miles

Ease of terrain: 3/10 - there were some lovely forest sections which I wasn’t expecting as I thought there would be more road walking.

Highlights - seeing wild ponies 🐴

Challenges - a long way to walk, few breaks and it felt like a march at times.
